Overview

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

This individual will supervise day-to-day transportation functions for the night/overnight shift to ensure driver performance, customer satisfaction, and that Department and Company objectives for efficiency, reliability, and productivity are met or exceeded.

 

This Supervisor oversees drivers delivering to customers during the night-time/overnight shift.  There are approximately 30-40 Drivers and Helpers per each shift covering about 21-25 routes per day.

The supervisor does several "Route Follows" during each shift (in their own car), manages the hours of service, and assists the Drivers and the Operations Command Center to resolve incidents or issues that arise during the shift, and helps insure all deliveries are made.  The Transportation Supervisor coordinates activities arising from problems on the route with the  Frisco HQ based Operations Command Center and the Drivers.  

 

 

What are we looking for in a strong Transportation Supervisor? 

 

 

Good leadership skills, personable/good communication skills, strong relationship builder, multi-tasker, coach, fair and consistent management style, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office), ability to use various platforms for information management (hand held scanners, phones, electronic log devices, etc. Experience with Omnitracs a plus.  

This is a union environment and it is preferred that candidates have some experience working wtih union associates.  

The driver workforce consists of very highly experienced drivers and lighter drivers- experience coaching others a plus. 

Food distribution or similar distribution experience preferred. 

CDL license a plus, but not required.

Prior Driver Trainer/Manager experience a plus.

 

 

When would you work?

 

 

Your Shift:  Four (4) day workweek. - Wednesday through Saturday, 6:00 pm - 4:00 am approx.  

This person would infrequently need to cover day shifts for vacations, but needs to be flexible to cover shifts to make sure deliveries are completed.

Competitive salary and benefits, plus this position is bonus eligible. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans, implements, and monitors day-to-day transportation operations, including analysis of on-time reports, delivery reliability, off-load rate, and manpower needs. (25%)
  1. Reviews and schedules daily routing of equipment and manpower to meet customer needs in terms of contractual guidelines, special deliveries, supplemental deliveries, opening orders, etc. (20%)
  1. Resolves equipment failures or break-downs, providing advice and assistance to drivers, as well as submitting appropriate reports to leasing/maintenance provider for service and repair. (15%) 
  1. Motivates employees, including performance evaluation, counseling, and problem resolution, to achieve a positive work environment. (20%)
  1. Supervises employees, including interpretation of rules in a union work environment, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action as required. (10%)
  1. Update reports on a daily basis, including review of drivers’ on-board computer reports to ensure that goals for efficiency and timeliness are met. (10%)
  1. Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT RESPONIBILITY

Supervises up to 50 or more employees, including hourly staff.  Oversees operations with significant impact on QCD customer relations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and experience equivalent to:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in management, business, or psychology from an accredited college or university a plus, but is not required. 

 

Experience:

3 to 6 years of work experience in transportation or food distribution, including supervisory responsibilities and union work environments.
