Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Unpack, visually inspect, and place frozen blocks of meat on conveyor to be ground.

1st and 2nd shift opportunities available.

Starting rate of pay is $13.00/hour.  

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adheres to safety, food safety, quality and legal compliance.
  • Perform all work in accordance with environmental, health and safety standards, rules, regulations and practices of the facility.
  • Must be able to pass training/certifications as required for qualification.
  • Sanitarily unpacking 60- pound frozen blocks of meat.
  • Visually checking blocks for quality using an automatic metal detector.
  • Place the blocks on a conveyor to be ground.
  • Maintain the supply and the type of blocks needed for the type of meat being produced.
  • Keep work area clean.
  • Document completed work as required by the supervisor.
  • Compliance with all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

 

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Cut open box using four cuts with knife at shoulder height to open box.
  • Remove plastic by turning over the blocks of meat.
  • Inspect blocks for quality.
  • Push 60 lb block of meat 1-5 feet onto conveyor and monitor blocks.
  • Discard trash and pallets to keep work area clean.
  • Ability to visually differentiate items of color, up close and in the distance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing.
  • Stand/walk 7 or more hours per day.
  • Continuously bend to inspect meat and open boxes.
  • Continuously reach, twist/turn and talk/hear.
  • Continuously use eye/hand coordination and handling/fingering to open boxes with a knife.
  • Continuously use gripping/grasping to remove plastic from meat.
  • Constantly lift 51-100lbs for entire shift.
  • Occasionally use eye/hand/foot coordination to operate a pallet jack.
  • Occasionally squat to lift pallets and trash bin.
  • Occasionally use fine motor tasks and smell.
  • Occasionally carry up to 50lbs for entire shift.
  • Push 60 lb block of meat.
  • Lift 30 lb pallet from floor to waist and walk 5-25 feet to discard.
  • Carry cardboard/trash bins 25-50 feet to trash compactor.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS:

  • Constantly work in damp, wet, humid and slippery environments.
  • Constantly work near moving equipment with fumes or airborne debris.
  • Constantly work in extremes of heat and cold (40-45 degrees) and occasionally in temperatures of less than 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Constantly work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection.
  • Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally work with hand tools causing segmental vibration.

 MACHINES/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE

  • Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and smock.
  • Cut resistant gloves, cut resistant apron, metatarsal guards, and steel toed shoes.
  • Rubber gloves, cotton gloves, plastic apron, and plastic sleeves.
  • Conveyors, block metal detector and food safety knife.
  • Pneumatic hand tool to remove entrapped plastic from blocks.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to use mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in accordance with production requirements.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
