Overview

JOB SUMMARY:  The EH&S Manager is responsible for two distribution centers in the Chicago area plus the Roseville, Minnesota location. Currently, the associates are in distribution centers in Franklin Park and Romeoville within the next six months.  The Primary role is to manage and coordinates all activities related to the facilities Environmental, Health, Safety and Training programs ensuring that Facilities and Company objectives for health, safety, quality and productivity are met or exceeded.

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Identify and interpret regulatory standards that impact operational exposures and business activities and guide needed plans to ensure compliance.
  2. Develop, implement and monitor comprehensive safety processes, training programs and management practices to eliminate all accidents in the workplace and meet all applicable safety rules and company policy.  Responsibilities to include:  OSHA, ergonomics, machine guarding, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicles, electrical safety, fire protection & emergency preparedness.
  3. Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive environmental processes and management practices to meet all applicable environmental rules and company policy requirements. Responsibilities to include but not limited to: waste water discharge, solid waste disposal, hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal, air emissions, spill prevention control and countermeasures, storm water national pollutant discharge elimination system, and ozone depleting substances.
  4. Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices, developing practices and programs to correct or reduce their occurrence.
  5. Provides assistance to plant personnel to improve safety and health of all employees.
  6. Plans, implements and monitors the day-to-day operations for the Facility’s training schedule, including analyzing operating data and reports, monitoring adherence to standards to ensure business plan objectives are met or exceeded.
  7. Communicates with Division management and employees and provides relevant reports and analyses to ensure appropriate decision-making as it applies to safety and training.  Completes special project assignments as needed.
  8. Ensures preparation and delivery of all relevant training and materials are compliant with all customer, governmental and Company directives and policies.
  9. Creates Job Specific Training Modules
  10. Investigates and reports on serious injuries to line or staff employees.
  11. Reviews and analyzes company accidents and historical claim experience to identify frequency or severity problems and loss trends. Conduct improvement projects based on findings to improve overall employee health and safety.
  12. Investigates and responds to employee safety concerns, unemployment claims, and workers compensation claims to provide high quality internal customer service.
  13. Periodically audits operational procedures and programs related to all aspects of the facility as training is developed and updated.
  14. Train and coach managers and supervisors on behavior based strategies, accident investigation, hazard identification, self-inspection and employee training.
  15. Manages assigned trainees, including training, development and validation of performance.
  16. Attends and coordinates department safety meetings.
  17. Establish a measuring device for safety performance throughout the facility by motivating individual accountability and reinforcing safety as a critical part of the corporate culture.
  18. Gatekeeper to all training documentation.
  19. Interface with insurer representatives on all post-loss (claim) communication required with adjuster, HR and injured worker. Work with HR for prompt return-to-work of any injured associate.
  20. Manages the New Employee Orientation Process.
  21. Manages the Alchemy Training System
  22. Manages the Layer by Layer and Skills Matrices.
  23. Coordinates all facility inspections for safety equipment.
  24. Ensure compliance with Quality and Operations Standards for successful results of third party annual IFS (International Featured Standards) Certification audits. 
  25. Adheres to food safety, quality and legal compliance. In the event of a crisis (i.e. product recall, fire, etc.)
  26. delegate responsibilities as outlined in the Crisis Communications and Management Guide.
  27. Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and experience equivalent to:

 

Education/Certification:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Life Science, Safety, or Risk Management from an accredited college or university. 
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional and OSHA 30 Hour is a plus.

 

Experience:

  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience in enivironmental health and safety field.
  • Experience in distribution center environments preferred.
  • Food distribution experience a plus.
