About the Job
The Automation & Controls Supervisor oversees engineering functions and personnel, focusing on all aspects of electrical and automation engineering within the factory. This includes expertise in electrical distribution, instrumentation, automation, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), digital solutions, food processing technologies, and project management. The role sets strategic and tactical direction for the Electrical & Automation (E&A) and maintenance departments, emphasizing safety, reliability, sustainability, compliance, and business objectives. The supervisor also actively participates in the planning and execution of capital investment projects.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Build Automation & Controls Capability (20%)
Ensure personnel operating and maintaining equipment are competent and trained.
Develop, review, and execute competency assessment and training plans.
Deliver Process Improvements (10%)
Maintain deep insight into production processes.
Drive improvements in quality, safety, and efficiency while protecting proprietary technologies.
Operate and Maintain (40%)
Implement and execute maintenance strategies and tools.
Assist Maintenance team to resolve down equipment.
Ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical systems, instrumentation, control systems, and MES.
Leverage digital technologies to enhance reliability and process performance.
Manage Risk and Compliance (10%)
Ensure all installations meet safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
Maintain up-to-date documentation (e.g., electrical drawings, automation backups, maintenance plans).
Oversee Management of Change processes for system modifications.
Manage Factory Asset Portfolio (10%)
Develop strategies to anticipate asset end-of-life and obsolescence.
Communicate timely updates for capital planning.
Excel in Industrialization (10%)
Participate in capital investment projects, ensuring technical solutions meet standards and are delivered on time and within budget.
Leadership/Management Responsibility
Currently supervises up to one employee.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred, or 5+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Experience:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Automation and/or MES engineering with electrical expertise.
• Experience managing technical teams, contractors, or third parties.
• Proven experience in project management and technical training delivery.

Allen-Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting (E)

Technical Skills:
Proficient in automation systems (HMI, PLCs, industrial networks).
Troubleshooting of PLCs, VFDs, servos, and robots.
Familiarity with Rockwell and Wonderware systems.
Understanding of electrical distribution (low to high voltage).
Knowledge of instrumentation, calibration, MES deployment, and digital technologies (e.g., vision systems, predictive maintenance).
Experience in food processing and hygienic engineering.
Use of CMMS systems.
Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills.
