Unpack, visually inspect, and place frozen blocks of meat on conveyor to be ground.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adheres to safety, food safety, quality and legal compliance.
  • Perform all work in accordance with environmental, health and safety standards, rules, regulations and practices of the facility.
  • Must be able to pass training/certifications as required for qualification.
  • Sanitarily unpacking 60- pound frozen cases of meat.
  • Visually inspect raw materials for defective condition and communicate such condition.
  • Maintain the supply and the type of frozen needed for the blend of meat being produced.
  • Assembly and disassembly of the grinding equipment including auger, grinder heads, covers, etc.
  • Keep work area clean.
  • Document completed work as required by the supervisor.
  • Compliance with all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

 

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Cut open box with knife at shoulder height to open box.
  • Inspect frozen for quality.
  • Discard trash and pallets to keep work area clean.
  • Ability to visually differentiate items of color, up close and in the distance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing.
  • Stand/walk 7 or more hours per day.
  • Continuously reach, twist/turn and talk/hear.
  • Continuously use eye/hand coordination and handling/fingering to open boxes with a knife.
  • Continuously use gripping/grasping handle knife, boxes, brooms and bins.
  • Constantly lift to waist height and carry 51-100lbs for entire shift a distance of 5 feet.
  • Frequently squat and bend.
  • Occasionally use eye/hand/foot coordination to operate a pallet jack.
  • Occasionally use fine motor tasks and taste/smell.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs from floor to shoulder height and carry 30 feet.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist height and carry 30 feet.
  • Evaluate disassembly of augers, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS:

  • Constantly work in damp, wet, humid and slippery environments.
  • Constantly work near moving equipment with fumes or airborne debris.
  • Constantly work in extremes of heat and cold (35-45 degrees) and occasionally in temperatures of less than 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Constantly work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection.
  • Constantly work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

 MACHINES/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE

  • Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and smock.
  • Rubber gloves, cotton gloves, plastic apron, and plastic sleeves.
  • Conveyors and food safety knife.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to use mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in accordance with production requirements.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
