Overview

Position Summary (Job Description):

Performs daily transportation functions as directed by Supervisor. Operates diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination trucks to transport and deliver products.  Drives truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicles in difficult situations, such as narrow passageways.  Inspects trucks for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck conditions. Maintains driver log according to D.O.T regulations and other federal and company required records/logs. May be required to perform product backhaul when returning from dispatched route. Unloads/loads product at store with or without assistance from store personnel. Will perform warehouseperson duties when yard driver work is not available.

  1. Functions as company as yard spotter, properly represents company interests and image in all dealings with customers, vendors, or business associates.
  2. Loads and unloads product from or onto trailers while operating in the capacity of a warehouse associate. Verifies delivered product against receiving Bills of Lading.  Verifies loaded product in accordance with all shipping procedures. 
  3. Requires use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequence of operations within the limitations of recognized or standards methods and procedures.
  4. Moves trailers, using the yard tractor, into and out of dock doors at the direction of the Warehouse Lead and/or Supervisor, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle.
  5. Operates forklift to load and/or unload trailers using safe operating practices.
  6. Maintain company quality and performance standards.
  7. Report unusual conditions and problems to supervisor.
  8. Observe company safety rules and regulations.
  9. Practice good housekeeping.
  10. Positions/check load securing equipment to secure cargo during transit.  Inspects vehicles for defects before, during and after trips, submits report indicating equipment condition.
  11. Perform other Warehouseperson duties when Yard Driver work is not available such as:
  12. Communicate with warehouse and warehouse staff on a regular basis to coordinate proper trailer drop & hook location.
  13. Operate commercial motor carrier equipment and inspect and monitor tractor-trailer for defects, check reefer fuel and reefer temperature.
  14. Pre-cool reefer units to Company specifications.
  15. Complete unloading of return trailers and wash and sweep out trailers if necessary. Chock wheels after trailer is in proper door. Follow airline lock procedure on each trailer.
  16. Verify unit departure times and align equipment accordingly; making sure tractor is hooked appropriate to trailer for assigned route.
  17. Update dispatch sheet with tractor-trailer number at the dispatch desk and maintain appropriate communication with transportation management team.
  18. Parks tractor- trailer in assigned parking spots and maintain yard free of trash.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required of this Position:

Must possess a valid driver's license and possess a current DOT Medical certification card.  One to three years driving tractor-trailer experience.  Must be able to effectively communicate to maintain positive customer relations climate with other drivers/warehouse personnel/customers/supervisors.  Capable of standing, walking and repeatedly climbing into and out of road tractor or switch tractor.  Must be able to work all necessary work schedules, including holidays/weekends.  Requires safely operating equipment in extremes of weather and climatic conditions and insure working in a cold environment (cooler/freezer).  Must be able to frequently lift/handle cases ranging from 5-50 pounds. HS diploma or equivalent required. Available to work daily overtime and 2nd shift 2PM-10:30PM. Hours may vary.

*The expected range for this position is $27.11/hour
