JOB SUMMARY:  Assists the General Manager in planning, controlling and directing all operational and administrative functions.  Assumes facility management responsibility in the absence of the General Manager.  This person will have managerial/supervisory roles over various areas. 

 

We are a union environment with approximately 150 associates.

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the direction of the General Manager, communicates and coordinates with customers regarding service levels, costs, and other needs to ensure high quality customer service and to enhance GSF’s reputation. (20%)
  • Manages assigned staff, including recruiting and selecting employees, assigning work, providing training and development, evaluating performance, and building a motivated, effective team to ensure that organizational goals for diversity, career development, productivity, performance management and employee involvement are met. (20%)
  • Plans, directs, and organizes all phases of product distribution to ensure adequate, timely, and accurate delivery of quality products to customers' stores. (15%)
  • Assists the General Manager in the direction of various financial activities, including budget preparation, business plans, quarterly financial and operations presentations, annual recosting meetings, equipment lease negotiations, and major capital purchases, interacting with customers and management to meet or exceed established performance and profitability objectives. (15%)
  • Develops and implements distribution center policies and procedures (human resources, administrative, safety, regulatory compliance, etc.) to ensure consistency with company-wide policies and to meet established objectives for customer service, safety, and performance. (10%)
  • Directs and coordinates through subordinate management the allocation of facilities, equipment, and staff to optimize the use of company resources and to meet or exceed established performance, profitability, and safety standards and objectives. (10%)
  • Reviews and analyzes inventory practices and procedures and surplus stock to develop improved inventory control methods. (5%)
  • Directs and implements policies and procedures to ensure better-than-industry average safety. (5%)
  • Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

Manage, through subordinate managers, approximately 175 employees.  Decisions have a significant financial and strategic impact.  Manage critical, highly sensitive external relationships.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and experience equivalent to:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration from an accredited college or university

 

Experience:

7 to 9 or more years of relevant work experience in product distribution environment with increasing management experience.  Food distribution experience preferred.  Should have strong experience working with WMS and ERP systems.  Experience with management of in-house transportation function (fleet and drivers) needed.
